VDI – Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, or VDI, refers to the process of running a user desktop inside a virtual machine that lives on a server in the datacenter. It’s a powerful form of desktop virtualization because it enables fully personalized desktops for each user with all the security and simplicity of centralized management.

Sample Scenario:  A student works on an assignment on a campus workstation.  From home, the student can log in and bring up the exact desktop campus desktop, enabling them to continue working within an identical environment.  This VDI will be available not only on desktop and laptops, but also mobile devices of a variety of form factors.

Currently, 200 VDI stations deployed. within 4 years, all YCCD workstations will use VDI technology.
